Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number

Jonathan Sederstre, better known as Cactus, is far from a beginner on an indie scene. Our magazine wrote about him several times. A couple of years ago, he participated in the IGF with the Tuning platformer, where the levels fell apart, then gathered, then curled up in a tube, right while you passed them. And before that there was Psychosomnium, an even more experimental platformer, the hero of which fell into a hysteria at the sight of a hole with spikes. In general, Sederstre is a real innovator who has never walked about the public. Who would have thought that his main game would be a bloody Top-Down action movie, which is entirely consisting of scammers, shootings and brutal murders.

Trance

The greatest misconception about Hotline Miami It sounds like this: "In this game, an excellent soundtrack". It is precisely these words that the majority of Western and domestic reviews end, and after them are usually “nine” or even “dozens” of heated authors. In our opinion, you can't say that. Music is the essence of Hotline Miami, Hotline Miami – this is music. And actually the game only accompanies her. Hotline Miami is a set of electronic melodies, and the game itself is a graphic equalizer that supports them. You know what visual images are in Windows Media Player: sea fog, quiet tornado, spectrum, dandelion. Hotline Miami is also visual images: a bloody fog, a quietly cut throat, a Doberman shot from a shotgun flying out the window ..

[[Bullet]] If you are killed, this is normal. The track playing in the background will not be interrupted.

A player, not susceptible to techno-rhythms, after ten minutes of acquaintance came to the conclusion that it was some ugly trash, and, shrugging his shoulders, turned it off forever. Fans of electronic music fell into real trance. In the same direction, Danny Boyle (“Trans”) and Nicholas Winding Refn (“Drive”, “only God will forgive”) are now going on now, mixing ultranasilia, highlighted by neon with dance tracks. Sederestrem was much better than his colleagues-post. When the split skulls of your enemies enter into a strange harmony with the bass thumping in the background, the effect of transmusias is overwhelmed by a gamer trance familiar to us all, a trance in a trance, real psychedelic experience. Try to look from the side: at the moments of the greatest tension, the player in Hotline Miami does not sit on the edge of the chair, gritting his jaw. He shakes his head to the beat of the melody.

SLEM

If you still try to describe what is happening in the usual gaming terms, it turns out that this is hardcore action with a strict, https://exclusive-casino.co.uk/ long-forgotten Top-Down perspective: the camera hangs perpendicular to the hero’s darkness, not deviating from a right corner. So they painted the games twenty years ago to save the resources of frail graphic chips – and so today one beggar Swede drew the game to save the resources of his wallet. The conventionality of graphics, among other things, makes violence not so disgusting, rather implied than shown.

[Bullet]] To continue the authors prepare a new selection of electronic melodies.

Despite the schematic and negligence of the picture, the gameplay in Hotline Miami was quite balanced and clear. The hero of the firm after the first hit, each level had to go from beginning to end, not allowing that at least someone touched you. One shot – and you are a corpse, six rounds in a shotgun, two in a rubble, the knife cuts quickly and silently, knocking your door with your foot, you stun the enemy standing behind it … These were simple and strict rules that create gameplay understandable, fast and not too deep.

[[Bullet]] Having shown this screenshot on the pages of our magazine ten years ago, you would think: “What kind of squalor”. And now it's arthouse.

The ordinary situation in Hotline Miami took place according to the laws of the film "Brother".

The hero bursts into the room, hits with a hollow from a shotgun, instead of a cry of "muzzle in the floor!"Throws the trunk itself in the face of a taken guard guard, grabs a knife, cuts the pharynx of two more bastards, throws the knife in the third; Then a bandit stunned by a shotgun comes to – he finishes him with his foot. For everything about everything – five seconds.

We describe in detail the combat mechanics because the authors are going to maintain the basic rules with untouched. Sederstre says bluntly: “The press was very praised by our fights. They turned out to be tense. We will not change anything radically. ".

Hook

Only some details will change. So, the mask system will be processed. In the original game, we remind you, the hero wore animal masks, each of which gave him additional opportunities. The wolf gave the knife already at the start of the level, the giraffe allowed to look further. Having pretended to be a hare, you ran faster, and the elephant completely broke the basic rules of the game, allowing you to skip a single bullet (the second became deadly).

There were 27 masks in the first Hotline Miami. In the sequel, their number is going to significantly reduce, while strengthening their gameplay differences. Simply put, there will be less masks, and their effect is more significant. For example, the tiger will allow you to kill enemies with your bare hands (usually you only send them to a knockdown), but you will not be able to use weapons, and by dressing a zebra, you can jump out the windows.

[[Bullet]] According to the authors, the sequel should become a much more serious and … sad game than the original.

New types of enemies will appear, like armored villains, invulnerable to cold weapons, but the main enemy will remain the same – dressed in a white jacket and green shirt of a bandit.

About the plot of the first part, we usually say that it is good – because it ends with a battle with two purple panthers and one single -eyed blonde with a katana – but the developers are going to continue the story that has begun in the original Hotline Miami in all seriousness.

The title “hot line” is the organization of killers, hiring random people to eliminate the chosen goals. The main character of the game, not particularly in the one who and for what he killed, made a lot of noise, interrupting the entire Russian mafia in Miami. In the sequel he has followers. First of all, we are talking about a group of cruel young people who call themselves "fans". They rush around the city on Volkswagen bus and deal with local bandits, hoping that one day the mysterious “delivery service” will pay attention to them.

Another storyline develops in parallel – about the film based on Hotline Miami. The main character HM2 plays the role of the hero of the first part. In one of the first scenes, he shoots the villains in the very real shootout, then he is going to rape the woman who remained in the room … The moment the player jumps away from the monitor, the director shouts: “Stop! Filmed!" – and half -naked actors get up as if nothing had happened. It turns out that it was just part of the filming. What did you think?

We will wait?

Fresh set of techno tracks under the mask of a cruel Top-Down shooter. The disco continues.
